We've been traveling for 2 days in unusually calm weather. How ironic that we struggled with the weather for 3 months and we get this now! Don't get me wrong - I'm thankful for mother nature's gift. Storms accompanied by heavy rains have chased us out real early as seasons go. This shows how this fishery is at the mercy of so many climatic variables.
After our last unload in Eureka California the heavy rains have changed
the salinity of the water and coastal anchovies head for open water,
not to be seen until next spring. Later in life as my priorities change
I've found that as much as I love the ocean and fishing, the best part
of it is coming home.
Sincerely
Jack Bandini
Hello from Sweden!
My name is Jens Andersson, and I have love eating tuna for as long as I can remember. I stopped eating eating it four years ago, since I had heard that tuna was one the most threatened fishes in the ocean, since the fishing methods did not take notice of which species they caught, neither if it was a threatened tuna or dolphins. If I have to say a food that I have missed the most, it would be tuna. However, today I saw a MSC-marked tuna in the shops today. I read on the package and on the MSC site that you were the ones fishing it, and that you used hook and line, hence totally dolphin safe, and also targeted on a non-threatened species. It costs quite much, but I am quite happy to be able to eat tuna again. It is worth the cost. I also consider you as much of a eco-hero as any Green Peace activist.
So x-mas greetings from Sweden. And good fishing! :)
